cut the cord
Do you ever think about what is tying you to your old story? We go through the motions every day and sometimes it does not reveal itself until you hit the end of the rope. How do you know when you are tied down? It’s when you get a no or feel stuck on a decision. That is usually a sign that something is wrong and needs to be healed or addressed. Is it something that you’ve gotten a no on before? Is the same conversation that you’ve had before? What is repeating itself in your life that the Universe is trying to bring to your attention? That is the cord keeping you tied to your past and an old story or belief.
I’ve been trying to find out why I am tied up about money and worth. I was raised with the belief that “you have to work hard for money”, “rich people are different/lucky/arrogant”, “you aren’t always going to like your job but it pays the bills”, “you have to take a job to work for less and put in your time and prove your worth more.” This cord kept me on the same hamster wheel for years. I would try out different wheels and they spin the same as the one before. I worked in jobs I didn’t love, make money at, and didn’t grow. I stayed too long, I didn’t stay long enough. I always went back to restaurants because it was mindless and allowed flexibility and paid the bills. All of these patterns played out because of the unconscious beliefs I learned as a child.
When I had enough of these old patterns and behaviors, I finally uncovered all the cords tying me to the old story. Slowly but surely, with lots of emotional/mindset work, I started cutting those cords. It was such a relief to start living a life of possibility and choice. You don’t know what you don’t know! You are not alone in feeling stuck in your life. It’s just a challenge to find the ties that bind.
As I continue to learn and grow, I find that there are more cords that tie me to my stories and excuses. What I’ve gotten good at is feeling those cords before I hit the end of the rope. I feel the tug, acknowledge the resistant thought, and cut the cord freely. I keep moving forward and release them all as I feel them pull me back or slow me down. Each challenge that crosses our path is just our Ego trying to lasso us in. We don’t always notice when a situation or thought gets ahold of us and ropes us in. You just have to get better at feeling cords take hold and cut them faster. That persistent thought, gut feeling, or curiosity is just your mind letting you know that something needs to be addressed. Listen to and trust your mind and body when you feel a tug. Cut the cord. Don’t let anyone or anything tie you down!
